Ellie: 18 Months

Happy Half Birthday to our munchkin!!!!  It's so hard to believe you are 18 months old.  This month has been so full and rich.  It's hard to describe, but I just want to freeze time.

Tid bits from 18 months:
  • The change that strikes me the most in Ellie this past month is definitely combining 2 (and sometimes 3) words.  Some of her most popular combinations: up please, more show, Darla poop, one more book, hi _____, buh-byes _____.  It has been crazy to see her vocabulary explode, too!  I was keeping a list of all of her words up until this month.  Last time I added to the list, she had about 80 words, but I honestly can't keep up now!  She is learning new words every single day and will try to say just about anything you label for her.  She is just a little sponge.  Some of her latest words that come to mind are: phone, yak, grasshopper, song, elbows, and knees.
  • Along the same lines, she has started really mimicking and repeating what we do and say.  Time to start being more careful.  I haven't taught her anything too terrible yet.....just "shoot", haha.
  • Ellie had her 1st tailgating experience Labor Day weekend (which I already blogged about), and the following weekend she got to attend her 1st Tennessee football game!  Beth and Harrison were sweet to share their extra tickets, and we all had an awesome time cheering on the Vols!!!  Ellie played great on the bleachers most of the game, but she was all of a sudden very attentive to the half time show!  I took her home for a nap after half time, and she asked for "more show" most of the ride home :)  She loves to watch The Pride of the Southland Marching Band parade through the street before the game!  It has become a new family tradition now since we've gone for every home game so far this year!  So much fun and lots of memories being made!

  • One of Ellie's latest tricks is hiding from me when we go upstairs, especially when it's time for nap.  She can almost always be found sitting in our closet in the dark with the door shut, or if not there she's behind the glider in her nursery reading books or playing with stuffed animals.  She gets the biggest grin on her face and giggles like crazy when you come find her!
  • Our little trash helper has developed more skills as she now enjoys vaccuming :)
  • My mom keeps up with Knoxville and Farragut news more than anyone I know that actually lives here (love you Mom!), so she let me know that Putt-Putt Golf & Games was having a free putt-putt day one recent Monday.  Those of you that know me well know that I can't let a good deal pass me by, so of course we had to go check it out!  Ellie wasn't interested in trying out her golf club, but she loved to carry the golf balls around and put them in the hole and take them back out each time.  The highlight of the night for her was definitely the giraffe that adorns the course.  She visited the "raff" several times and hugged his legs :)

  • We visited the TN Valley Fair for our 2nd annual trip and got away with not doing any rides again this year, haha!  She LOVED the animal/petting zoo part, so we went through that at the beginning and the end of our night.  Otherwise, she pointed at all of the various rides and enjoyed just watching the rides chanting "more show" for much of the night!
  • Ellie has become increasingly more obsessed with books.  I love this about her, I really do.  She has several favorites that she likes to read to US and gets a little possessive about holding the book and flipping the pages as she desires (oh my!)  Some of her current favorites to read are Goodnight Gorilla and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Here are a few of my other favorite pictures from this month:

I am overwhelmed by God's grace and blessings in choosing us to be Ellie's parents...what an honor and a joy to raise this precious girl.

Now, time to rest while I have a chance!  Michael is golfing, Ellie is sleeping, and this girl is carving out time to relax on this beautiful Sunday afternoon.  Thank you, Lord!
